Today, I make a entry about reading section of TOEFL-ibt test. I wanna make a record of my stay in Toronto, but I don't have enough time to do that(awful!!).
- read all the sentence of each paragraphs
- put "NEXT".
- read questions
read paragraph focusing on the question. Even if I get the evidence, read through the paragraph first.
- answer the questions
- put "NEXT".
- move to next question
WHAT IS ASKED?:
answer what examiner asks. Especially when I face irregular question.
sign of incorrect choices
RULE OF OPPOSITE;
if two opposite choices are proposed, one of them is likely to be right answer.
I have some problems.
For 1, make it a rule to detect evidences for all choices. This operation requires me to take more than 3 minutes. If I have enough time(the case where I have more than 5minutes when I start to answer the final question), do that. If I don't have enough time, bet on smaller number of choices. In most cases, I can narrow candidate of the correct choice down to 4. And usually, I can be confident to the credibility of two of them. Then, all I have to do is to detect evidence of correct/incorrect choices rigidly. If I succeed to do that, approximately 70% of my selection is perfect.
For 2, be sensitive to detailed information. In general, final correct answers for final questions are general expression showing structure of the passage. So, a choice that focus on a specific topic is unlikely to be a correct answer. With three answers, summary can cover whole contents of passage.
In conclusion, I show the procedure of last question.
a, read first(if needed, also read second) sentence of each paragraph and comprehend structure of the passage.
b, rule out choices(maybe 2choices) that is clearly wrong.
c, choose correct choices which are obviously right according to structure of
d, detect evidence of two choices which are difficult to decide whether they are correct or not.
